Federal Cabinet Approves National Housing Policy 2026 With Action Plan

Islamabad: The Federal Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, approved the National Housing Policy 2026 along with its implementation action plan, giving Pakistan its first updated national housing framework since 2001. The policy promotes affordable and sustainable housing, better land utilisation, housing finance, modern construction technologies, low-income and rural housing, and climate-resilient development. Authorities have also been directed to ensure compliance with zoning regulations, prioritize vertical development where appropriate and incorporate energy-efficiency standards into future housing projects. Separately, official Finance Division data shows banks have approved over Rs220.68 billion under the Wazir-e-Azam Apna Ghar Programme, while around Rs34.27 billion had been disbursed up to July 2026.
