Shehbaz Sharif Orders Timely Completion of Major Railway Projects

Islamabad: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif chaired a review meeting on the Pakistan Railways Transformation Plan and directed authorities to complete all major railway development projects within their approved timelines and according to the highest quality standards. The meeting reviewed progress on the ML-1 Karachi–Rohri section, ML-3 Rohri–Nokundi upgradation and the Thar Coal Railway Connectivity project. Officials informed the meeting that detailed engineering design for the Karachi–Rohri section had been completed, while 60% work on the 112-kilometre Thar coal railway track up to Chhor Railway Station had been finished, with completion targeted for December 2026. The government’s wider railway reform roadmap also focuses on track upgrades, digitisation, private-sector participation and financial sustainability.
