Punjab Expands Green Electric Bus Network Across Multiple Cities

Punjab is rapidly expanding its green electric public transport network, bringing modern bus services to cities that previously had limited or no organised public transport. The provincial government has approved 657 environment-friendly buses as part of a wider clean mobility initiative, with electric buses already operating in cities including Lahore, Rawalpindi, Multan, Faisalabad, Gujranwala, Sahiwal, and Mianwali.

The new fleet is equipped with air conditioning, onboard Wi-Fi, CCTV surveillance, GPS tracking, wheelchair accessibility, and dedicated compartments for women to improve passenger comfort and safety. The initiative also offers free travel for senior citizens, persons with disabilities, students, children, and women, making public transport more accessible for vulnerable groups. Officials say the project aims to reduce traffic congestion, lower carbon emissions, and encourage people to shift from private vehicles to modern, environmentally friendly public transport. The expansion forms part of Punjab’s broader strategy to modernise urban mobility while improving connectivity across the province.
