The Karachi Development Authority has sought approval from the Sindh Local Government Department to develop public land valued at approximately Rs90 billion through a public-private partnership model. The proposal has been presented as a way to address KDA’s financial difficulties while generating revenue from valuable land assets.
The proposed portfolio reportedly includes 28 acres near the KDA Officers Housing Society on Stadium Road, 15 acres in the KDA Staff Colony in North Karachi, and around four acres occupied by a KDA field office in the Federal Area, along with other authority-owned properties across Karachi.
Under the proposal, private developers could be engaged to construct commercial, residential, or mixed-use projects after receiving the required provincial approvals. However, the plan is not yet final and remains subject to the Sindh government’s decision. KDA employees and officials have raised concerns about transparency, valuation, and the long-term protection of public assets.
