Lahore seals illegal commercial buildings as monsoon safety crackdown expands

Lahore: On the direction of Deputy Commissioner Captain (R) Muhammad Ali Ijaz, the crackdown against illegal and dangerous constructions has been intensified across the city. During the latest operation, two major commercial buildings were sealed and three illegal structures were demolished in Gawalmandi, Brandreth Road, and Beadon Road. MCL Town Planning Wing, enforcement teams, and heavy machinery took part in the action inside Data Ganj Bakhsh Zone, where several buildings were found violating approved plans and building codes. Officials said constructions without approved maps or NOCs will not be allowed, especially during monsoon when unsafe structures pose serious risks. Strong enforcement can protect lives, improve urban planning, and strengthen real estate confidence. Will this drive make Lahore’s commercial areas safer?
