Islamabad: The National Highways and Motorway Police have made it mandatory for all passenger and cargo vehicles to carry functional fire extinguishers while traveling on national highways and motorways. According to the official notification, vehicles without fire extinguishers will not be allowed to enter motorways after June 24, 2026, and legal action will be taken against violators. Authorities have also launched a nationwide fire safety awareness campaign to educate drivers about road safety and emergency preparedness. Motorists are being advised to check the expiry date and working condition of their fire extinguishers before travel, as expired or non-functional equipment will not be accepted. The initiative aims to enhance road safety standards and reduce fire-related accidents on highways. Can stricter safety regulations significantly improve motorway travel security in Pakistan?
