Islamabad: The government has approved a Rs 9 billion Electric Vehicle plan aimed at bringing more than 119,000 electric vehicles onto Pakistani roads. The scheme will mainly support electric bikes, rickshaws, and small commercial vehicles through subsidized programs. Officials say the initiative is designed to reduce fuel costs, improve air quality, and encourage local EV production. The plan matters because affordable green transport can reduce pressure on fuel imports, lower daily commuting expenses, and support cleaner urban mobility. It may also create demand for EV charging infrastructure, workshops, battery services, and commercial transport upgrades. This can influence investment, urban planning, and future real estate around mobility corridors. Can this EV push reshape Pakistan’s transport economy?
