Islamabad: Pakistan is facing a worsening energy crisis as at least three LNG cargoes remain stuck in the Persian Gulf due to disruptions near the Strait of Hormuz. Officials stated that the country has been without LNG supply for over a month, leading to increased power shortages. Authorities highlighted a shortfall of around 3,400 MW, with LNG-based power generation significantly reduced. To manage the situation, reliance on furnace oil has increased while maintenance schedules are being delayed. Experts believe that continued disruption and uncertainty in additional LNG supplies could intensify load-shedding and further strain Pakistan’s energy system during peak summer demand.
