ISLAMABAD: The Capital Development Authority has approved initiating a feasibility study for an electric tram project as part of efforts to introduce a modern and environmentally friendly public transport system in the federal capital. The decision was taken during a meeting chaired by CDA Chairman and Chief Commissioner Islamabad Muhammad Ali Randhawa. Officials discussed infrastructure needs, including depots, parking, charging facilities, and maintenance services, with the project to be developed under an Intelligent Transport System framework. The chairman directed that the system be fully digital and cashless, and that carbon credit mechanisms be included. He also instructed that the feasibility study examine connectivity with key locations, particularly Islamabad International Airport, based on updated ridership data and future demand projections.
