Govt Sets New One-Year Completion Target for Karachi–Chaman Highway

The federal government has accelerated work on the Karachi–Chaman Highway, setting a revised completion target of one year for the 850-kilometre project, down from the earlier two-year plan. The highway, long known for frequent fatal accidents, will be reconstructed at an estimated cost of Rs400 billion, fully funded by the federal government. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, who laid the foundation stone in Quetta, said savings from stabilising domestic petroleum prices are being redirected to upgrade the route into a safer, economically vital corridor. Officials say the project will significantly improve road safety, enhance regional connectivity, and facilitate trade and travel, supporting broader economic development across Balochistan and beyond.
