Punjab Bans Purchase of Petrol and Diesel Vehicles in Government Departments

The Government of Punjab has imposed a complete ban on the purchase of petrol and diesel vehicles across provincial government departments, marking a major shift toward eco-friendly transport. According to the notification issued on January 15, 2026, departments will now be allowed to procure only electric or hybrid vehicles, while vehicles assigned for field duties have been exempted from this restriction. Punjab Chief Secretary Zahid Akhtar Zaman stated that promoting green energy and reducing environmental pollution are key government priorities. He added that a new Electric Vehicle Policy for Punjab will be introduced soon to further support sustainable mobility, reduce fuel dependency, and encourage cleaner transportation across the province.
