Rs1.3bn Shaheen Chowk Underpass in Islamabad to Open Soon

Capital Development Authority (CDA) is set to open the Rs1.3 billion Shaheen Chowk underpass in Islamabad in the coming days, following completion ahead of schedule. Located at the busy junction of 9th Avenue and Khayaban-i-Iqbal, the project aims to ease chronic congestion and improve traffic flow. During construction, CDA approved design enhancements to boost long-term capacity, increasing the underpass barrel length from 56 to 85 meters, adding an extra lane to the roundabout, and introducing two new U-turns for better access. The revisions remained within PPRA’s allowed cost limits. The foundation stone was laid by Shehbaz Sharif on October 24, and officials say the project is close to opening for traffic.
