Rawalpindi: The Punjab Development Working Party (PDWP) has approved a revised cost of Rs51.326 billion for the Rawalpindi Ring Road R-3 project from Banth to Thalian. The approval was granted at a meeting held in Lahore on October 12, 2026, chaired by Punjab Planning and Development Board Chairman Dr Naeem Rauf.
According to recent project reports, construction of the 38.3-kilometre main route and four interchanges at GT Road Banth, Chakbeli Khan Road, Adiala and Chakri has been completed. However, work on tolling facilities, way stations and the Intelligent Transport System is still underway.
The revised project also covers the Thalian interchange, where land acquisition has reportedly been completed. The Punjab Ring Road Authority is expected to manage the tolling system, while the administration has requested Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz to announce a date for the road’s inauguration.
Some reports published on October 17 quoted a lower revised project cost of Rs50.4 billion. However, the October 12 PDWP meeting figure reported by APP and Dawn was Rs51.326 billion. No confirmed inauguration date has been announced.
