Rawalpindi Plans Rs. 800 Million Underpass at Ninth Avenue Chowk

The Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) has planned the construction of a new underpass at Ninth Avenue Chowk on Karnal Sher Khan Road to ease chronic traffic congestion between Rawalpindi and Islamabad. The project, estimated to cost Rs. 800 million, has been forwarded to the Punjab government for approval.According to project details, the underpass will be approximately 1,600 feet long and constructed 16 feet below the existing road level, with a 24-foot-wide carriageway. A pumping house will also be built to ensure effective rainwater drainage.Officials said the junction remains congested despite an existing flyover, as it serves as a key alternative route after the Faizabad Interchange. Making the intersection signal-free is expected to significantly improve traffic flow toward Double Road and Ninth Avenue.
