Punjab’s DREAMS Project to Generate Revenue Through Carbon Credits

Under Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif’s vision, Punjab’s DREAMS Project will generate substantial revenue by selling carbon credits from solid waste management in the international carbon market, officials said.A technical and capacity-building session was organized by the Local Government & Community Development Department to train stakeholders on carbon credit calculation, verification, and registration mechanisms.Secretary Local Government Shakeel Ahmed Mian attended the session and later distributed certificates among participants. Officials from waste management companies, WASA, metropolitan corporations, PMDFC, PRMSC, and other municipal institutions participated.The Bahawalpur Solid Waste Management System was presented as a practical model to demonstrate carbon reduction processes. Program Director Umar Javed stated that the initiative supports climate action by reducing carbon emissions while creating new financial streams for municipalities.Officials emphasized that one carbon credit is earned for every one ton of carbon dioxide reduced, making the project both environmentally and economically sustainable.
