Punjab releases Rs 20bn for Apni Chhat Apna Ghar housing programme

Lahore: The Punjab government has released Rs 20bn under the “Apni Chhat Apna Ghar” programme to ensure uninterrupted construction of houses for low-income families. So far, over 121,000 families have received interest-free loans, while instalments for more than 26,000 additional beneficiaries are ready for disbursement. Currently, over 43,000 houses are under construction across the province. Officials stated that more than Rs 172bn has already been spent on housing development, with recoveries exceeding Rs 6bn. The government aims to construct 500,000 houses over the next five years in phases. Authorities described the initiative as a major step toward social stability, housing accessibility, and strengthening the province’s construction and real estate sectors.
