Punjab Introduces Cardless Digital Ticketing on EV Buses

The Punjab Masstransit Authority has introduced a QR-based digital payment system that allows passengers to travel on electric buses without needing a physical card. The feature works through the eTransit Punjab mobile app, where users can register with their mobile number, recharge their digital wallet, and activate a dynamic QR code for ticketing. Passengers simply scan the code on on-board POS machines installed inside EV buses, enabling cashless and cardless travel across the province. The fare is automatically deducted from the in-app wallet, improving convenience and reducing boarding time. Officials say this upgrade supports Punjab’s broader push toward smart mobility, digital governance, and sustainable transport solutions, making public transit more modern, efficient, and user-friendly.
