Punjab Govt Launches Urban Development Projects in 51 Cities

LAHORE: The Punjab government has launched large-scale urban development projects in 51 cities under a flagship initiative led by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif. The chief minister has assumed direct oversight of the Punjab Development Plan and directed authorities to complete the first phase by June, with priority given to sewerage systems and essential civic infrastructure. To ensure transparency and timely execution, provincial and district-level control rooms are being established for real-time monitoring and public complaint resolution. Under the plan, 5,887 kilometers of sewerage lines, 181 drainage channels, and over 33,000 manhole covers will be installed. Major upgrades are underway in cities including Multan, Gujranwala, Dera Ghazi Khan, Bhakkar, Vehari, and Sheikhupura, covering sanitation, drainage, parks, and urban facilities.
