Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has issued a decisive 30-day deadline to improve Lahore’s deteriorating traffic system, warning that this is the last chance for the traffic police. Chairing a high-level meeting on rising traffic issues, she stated that if performance does not improve, a new traffic department may be created. Officials briefed the CM on modern traffic management plans, road safety, enforcement, and recent violations. The meeting revealed that the 60-year-old Punjab Traffic Act has undergone 20 major reforms, including vehicle auction for repeated violations and heavy penalties for government vehicles breaking the law. Key decisions include cracking down on under-age driving, banning Qingqi rickshaws on five model roads, enforcing parking requirements for marriage halls, and eliminating one-way violations within 30 days.
