Punjab Approves Three Major Healthcare Projects Worth Over Rs37 Billion

Lahore: The Punjab government has granted administrative approval for three major healthcare projects worth more than Rs37 billion in Lahore, Gujranwala and Layyah. Punjab Health Minister Khawaja Salman Rafique said the projects were approved under Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif’s healthcare development programme to expand specialised medical facilities across the province.

The approved projects include the Maryam Nawaz Institute of Pediatric Health Sciences in Lahore’s Nawaz Sharif Medical District, with an estimated cost exceeding Rs17.25 billion. The second project is the Maryam Nawaz Institute of Cardiology in Gujranwala, costing more than Rs15.39 billion, while a new medical college in Layyah has been approved at an estimated cost exceeding Rs4.4 billion.

According to the provincial health minister, the Punjab Health Secretary has granted administrative approval for all three schemes. The Infrastructure Development Authority of Punjab (IDAP) and the Communication and Works (C&W) Department have been designated as the implementing agencies responsible for carrying out the projects.

The government expects these developments to improve specialised treatment and medical education facilities, particularly for children, heart patients and future healthcare professionals. However, administrative approval does not mean construction has been completed or that the facilities are operational. Project-specific construction schedules, opening dates and final service delivery arrangements require further confirmation.
