Punjab announces Rs 6 billion free gunny bags for wheat farmers

Lahore: Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz has announced a major relief package for wheat farmers, including free distribution of gunny bags worth Rs 6 billion. Under the policy, registered farmers will receive 10 bags per acre at official procurement centers, while wheat purchase will be carried out at Rs 3500 per maund with mandatory payment within 72 hours. Authorities have also decided to prioritize farmers holding Kisan Cards and established strategic management committees at provincial and divisional levels for monitoring procurement operations. Officials highlighted additional initiatives including agricultural internships, mechanization support, and tractor distribution schemes. The government aims to strengthen the agriculture sector, ensure farmer support, and promote sustainable growth across Punjab.
