Over 2.5 million traffic challans issued in Punjab, fines exceed Rs5.44 billion

Lahore: Punjab Police has intensified enforcement of traffic laws during the current fiscal year, issuing over 2.55 million challans for various violations. Officials reported that fines exceeding Rs5.44 billion were imposed, reflecting strict action against rule breakers. More than 30,000 smoke-emitting vehicles were penalised, while 5,358 vehicles were impounded and several fitness certificates were confiscated. Additionally, over 2.6 million driving licences were issued, highlighting efforts to regularise drivers. Inspector General of Police Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar directed authorities to ensure strict implementation of revised traffic laws, targeting over-speeding, underage driving, one-way violations and overloading. Officials stated that training is also being provided through 127 driving schools to promote safer roads.
