KP Bans Illegal Gold Mining in Four Districts

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Government has imposed a ban on illegal gold mining in the districts of Swabi, Nowshera, Kohat, and Karak under Section 144 to protect rivers and prevent environmental damage. According to officials, the restriction was enforced by the Home Department to curb unlawful mineral extraction, particularly along the banks of the Indus River and Kabul River. The notification strictly prohibits mining activities, authorizing district administrations and police to seize machinery, vehicles, and tools used in illegal operations. Violators will face action under Section 188 of the Pakistan Penal Code, including fines and imprisonment. Officials warned that illegal mining causes severe ecological damage and is often linked to smuggling and security risks. The temporary ban aims to deter illegal activities while paving the way for environmentally responsible mining regulations.
