Islamabad: Islamabad High Court Justice Arbab Muhammad Tahir extended the interim order restraining the National Highway Authority from collecting an additional 50 percent motorway toll from vehicles without M-Tags or with insufficient account balances. During the August 3 hearing, NHA’s counsel informed the court that implementation of the earlier order had begun and the disputed additional toll and penalties were no longer being collected. The case originated from a petition filed by Advocate Muhammad Jalal Haider challenging the legality of NHA’s May 30, 2025 notification. The petitioner maintains that the NHA Act permits the authority to levy tolls but does not empower it to impose the disputed surcharge as a penalty. The court sought further arguments and continued the interim relief pending subsequent proceedings.
