Islamabad: Islamabad Traffic Police has issued a traffic diversion plan around Kashmir Chowk on Club Road as construction of the Kashmir Chowk Underpass moves ahead. For October 6, Club Road was scheduled to remain closed in both directions from 8:30am to 11:00am, while broader traffic-management arrangements will continue as required during construction.
Motorists travelling from the Secretariat and Serena Hotel towards Rawalpindi have been advised to use Srinagar Highway and Ninth Avenue. Traffic towards Rawal Dam Chowk, Park Road and Lehtrar Road can use routes through Seventh Avenue, Shakarparian Road and Rawal Dam Road, while separate alternatives have been advised for Bhara Kahu, Murree and traffic approaching Islamabad from Rawalpindi.
The diversion is linked to the Kashmir Chowk Underpass, an active CDA project near Islamabad Club on Murree Road. CDA says the project is intended to reduce congestion and waiting times at the busy junction.
The project contract was awarded at around Rs1.45 billion, with the bidding document giving a 90-day completion period. CDA officials had also discussed completing it on a faster schedule of around two months, but that shorter period should be treated as an accelerated target rather than the contractual deadline.
