FBR Clarifies: No New Powers to Recover Taxes from Bank Accounts Without Notice

Islamabad: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has clarified that the Finance Act 2026 has not introduced any new powers allowing tax officials to directly recover taxes from people’s bank accounts without proper notice. FBR said these recovery rules have been part of Pakistan’s tax laws for almost 50 years. Taxpayers are first given a demand notice and 30 days to respond before any recovery action is taken.
