Electricity Per Unit Price Likely to Increase as Power Consumption Rises by 22%

ISLAMABAD: Electricity prices may increase as the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) considers a hike of 48 paisa per unit following a sharp rise in power consumption across the country. In December 2025, electricity usage increased by 22 percent compared to last year, reaching 2.4 billion units due to strong industrial and agricultural demand. Power officials stated that the rapid expansion of solar energy is reducing grid dependency, while concerns are rising over higher production costs. Industrial consumers have opposed any price increase, warning it could impact economic activity. Authorities are reviewing the situation as part of broader power sector adjustments.
