Dubai-based sustainable developer URB has proposed THE LOOP, a 93-kilometre climate-controlled urban corridor designed to make cycling, running and walking more practical in Dubai’s hot climate. The concept aims to create advanced active-mobility infrastructure and connect residents with key destinations and services across the city.
The proposed development is linked to Dubai’s wider ambition to improve sustainable urban mobility and support the concept of a 20-minute city. Project details describe a controlled environment for year-round active travel, with the broader concept also focused on health, wellbeing and sustainable infrastructure. Reports on the proposal say it aims to connect more than three million residents to important locations through walking and cycling.
However, THE LOOP should not be reported as a confirmed 93-km “indoor city.” The official project description presents it as a proposed sustainable urban highway and cycling-and-running infrastructure concept.
