Power Tariff Cut Likely as CPPA Seeks Rs0.71 per Unit Relief from NEPRA

Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) has filed a petition with National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) seeking a reduction of Rs0.71 per unit in electricity tariffs under fuel price adjustment for November. NEPRA has scheduled a hearing on the request for December 31. According to the petition, electricity was billed to consumers based on provisional tariffs, but subsequent calculations showed a decrease in fuel generation costs, making consumers eligible for relief. If approved, the decision will be notified to power distribution companies, including Lahore Electric Supply Company, and the relief will be passed on to consumers in January electricity bills. The government plans to clearly mention the fuel price adjustment relief separately on bills to ensure transparency.
