The Punjab government, under the vision of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, has approved Lahore’s first Surface Water Treatment Plant to make water reusable and address the city’s growing water needs. The project was approved during the 52nd meeting of the Provincial Development Working Party (PDWP) and will be installed along the BRB Canal.With support from the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB), the plant will treat 54 million gallons of surface water daily, benefiting areas including Mughalpura, Baghbanpura, Fatahgarh, and Shadipura, along with more than 1.7 million residents across Lahore.The project will be developed on 120 acres and is scheduled for completion by 2031. A 5-megawatt solar power system will also be installed to support energy needs. Officials said the project will be submitted to ECNEC for final approval.
