Punjab to Develop 5,300 Acres of Shrimp Estates Under Blue Economy Drive

Punjab has taken a major step toward strengthening its Blue Economy with the launch of a technology-driven Shrimp and Aquaculture Value Chain Development initiative. Building on the success of a 100-acre pilot shrimp project completed last year, the provincial government plans to establish 5,300 acres of shrimp estates in Muzaffargarh and Sargodha under Phase-I, targeted for completion by March 2026.The initiative will include hatcheries, aqua malls, processing plants, cold storage facilities, and an integrated transport and logistics network, creating a complete value chain from production to export. Drawing on global expertise from countries such as the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Thailand, Australia, Mexico, and Ecuador, the project aims to boost employment, exports, and sustainable aquaculture. Feasibility studies for an additional 26,000 acres are also underway.
