Punjab Approves Rs 304 Billion Development Program Covering 52 Cities

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif chaired a special meeting on the Punjab Development Program, where officials presented a detailed briefing and progress report. Under the first phase, streets, parks, sewerage, and drainage systems across 52 cities are being upgraded, with development work officially starting on 19 December 2025 and major milestones set for 30 June 2026.The program’s total cost is Rs 304 billion, including Rs 166 billion in already approved projects. Fifty tenders have been floated, while ten have been finalized.Phase one includes major improvements such as 3,497 km of sewerage lines, 181 km of drainage systems, 56 new disposal stations, and repairs to 61 existing stations—boosting capacity to 2,114 cusecs.Ten cities—Burewala, Khanewal, Lalamusa, Mailsi, Sillanwali, Vehari, Attock, Layyah, Alipur, and Jaranwala—will see immediate project launches worth Rs 53.5 billion.The CM directed that the most deteriorated areas be prioritized and ordered all drainage works to be completed before the monsoon.
