Punjab: The Punjab government has given in-principle approval to introduce an AI-powered Multi-Disease Scanner, with the Health Department directed to prepare a pilot project before wider implementation. The decision followed a briefing by executives of Chinese technology company Alibaba Cloud.
According to the briefing, the proposed system uses non-contrast CT technology and could potentially screen for up to 10 diseases in around two minutes. It is designed to assist doctors with screening, early detection, diagnosis and treatment planning rather than replace conventional medical diagnosis.
The technology could support screening for serious conditions including pancreatic, liver, gastric, esophageal and colorectal cancers, along with cardiovascular risks, osteoporosis and fatty liver disease.
For now, however, the project remains at the pilot-planning stage. No specific hospital, deployment location or launch date for the scanner has yet been announced publicly.
