Lahore: LDA Director General Tahir Farooq inspected the operational Hazrat Ali Hajveri Underpass and reviewed traffic coming from Azadi Chowk, while also checking the quality and finishing of ongoing development works along Circular Road. LDA says the underpass is now serving more than 300,000 vehicles daily.
During the visit, Chief Engineer TEPA Iqrar Hussain and the project director briefed the DG on traffic flow and remaining works. Tahir Farooq directed officials to quickly complete the protected U-turn, improve building facades along Circular Road and adopt a sustainable development model for the corridor.
He also ordered development of an underground utility corridor and cable trays to remove hanging wires, while reviewing the finishing and overall quality of the ongoing works.
The approximately 400-metre, three-lane underpass, built at a reported cost of around Rs1 billion, was opened to traffic on August 19, 2026. It provides signal-free movement from Azadi Chowk towards Bhati Chowk and onward towards Kachehri and Mall Road.
