Rawalpindi: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, accompanied by Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, inaugurated Sky47 Karakoram-01, described as Pakistan’s first and largest purpose-built, AI-ready data centre and sovereign cloud platform. The facility has an initial power capacity of 8.5 megawatts and is designed to support artificial intelligence, machine learning, high-performance computing, cybersecurity and secure local data hosting. The prime minister said the project would strengthen Pakistan’s digital infrastructure and improve the protection of sensitive national and commercial information. Officials said the carrier-neutral facility could serve government institutions, banks, telecom operators, healthcare organisations and technology companies while reducing reliance on overseas data-hosting services.
