The Punjab government has completed the first-phase delivery of 272 modern drainage and sewerage machines to 15 districts under Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif’s province-wide urban services programme. The initiative aims to extend development beyond Lahore and provide comparable public facilities across all districts. At the same time, the government is expanding the WASA network to 41 districts, where the supply of a total of 696 machines and specialised equipment is currently underway. The machinery will support sewer cleaning, desilting, rainwater removal and emergency drainage operations. Officials say the programme is intended to modernise municipal infrastructure, improve monsoon preparedness and provide a sustainable solution to recurring sewerage and urban flooding problems.
