Pakistan receives first RoRo ship carrying 2,000 imported electric vehicles

Karachi: Pakistan has received its first-ever Roll-on/Roll-off vessel at Karachi Port, carrying more than 2,000 imported electric vehicles. The shipment reportedly includes BYD Atto 2, Atto 3, and Shark 6 models, marking a major development for the country’s growing electric vehicle market. The RoRo system allows vehicles to be driven directly off the ship, making the import process faster, safer, and more efficient compared to traditional cargo handling. The arrival of a large EV shipment is expected to improve vehicle availability, support clean transportation, and encourage market competition. Stronger EV imports can also impact charging infrastructure, commercial zones, logistics, and urban mobility. Can this shipment accelerate Pakistan’s shift toward electric transport?
