Punjab Completes 200,000 Homes Under Apni Chhat Housing Programme

The Punjab government has launched the “Apni Chhat, Safe Ghar” initiative to help protect structurally weak houses during the ongoing monsoon season. The programme builds upon the province’s Apni Chhat Apna Ghar (ACAG) housing scheme, which provides interest-free housing loans and home-construction support for low-income families. Under the broader initiative, around 200,000 houses are currently under construction, while approximately 178,000 homes have already been completed and handed over to beneficiaries. The provincial government aims to increase this figure to more than 500,000 houses over the next two and a half years, expanding access to safe and durable housing across Punjab. Officials say strengthening vulnerable homes before heavy rainfall is intended to reduce weather-related risks while accelerating affordable housing development.
