Lahore: The Punjab Home Department has imposed Section 144 across the province from 1st to 10th Muharram (June 17–26) to ensure security during Muharram-ul-Haram. Under the order, seven categories of restrictions have been introduced, including a ban on displaying weapons, explosive materials, provocative slogans, sectarian statements, and unauthorized activities. Authorities have also prohibited the construction of observation posts on rooftops along procession routes and the accumulation of bricks, stones, or other materials that could pose security risks. A ban on pillion riding will remain in effect on 9th and 10th Muharram, with certain exemptions. Officials say the measures are aimed at maintaining peace, public safety, and smooth conduct of approved religious gatherings. Will these security arrangements help ensure a peaceful Muharram across Punjab?
