Lahore: The Punjab government has approved Rs60 billion for the first phase of the Model Villages Program aimed at improving rural infrastructure and living standards. Chaired by Local Government Minister Zeeshan Rafique, the review meeting highlighted that development work has already begun in 485 villages. The program includes water supply systems, sewerage networks, street construction, parks, and installation of streetlights, benefiting nearly 4 million residents. Authorities also emphasized restoration of traditional village ponds as part of environmental sustainability. Officials directed strict monitoring of contractors and ensured availability of machinery. The initiative is expected to expand further, targeting thousands of additional villages across Punjab.
