Lahore: Pakistan Kisan Rabta Committee has warned that current agricultural policies, particularly the removal of the wheat support price, could push the country towards a food crisis and economic instability. Speaking at a press conference, leader Riffat Maqsood stated that the absence of a minimum support price has left farmers at the mercy of traders and middlemen, forcing them to sell crops at low rates despite rising production costs. The committee demanded that the wheat price be fixed at Rs4,000 per maund and that the government immediately resume procurement. It also announced a series of protests across Punjab and nationwide, urging reforms to protect farmers’ rights, ensure fair pricing and maintain food security.
