Punjab Government Decides to Further Tighten Anti-Smog Plan

The Punjab government has decided to further tighten its anti-smog plan as northwesterly winds increase the inflow of imported pollution into Lahore. Acting on the directives of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, all departments are active 24/7, implementing science-based measures to curb deteriorating air quality. Officials said scientific mapping is being used to track pollution coming from industrial cities, and noticeable improvement is expected in the coming days. According to the Environment Department, although pollution inflow has increased, there is no relaxation in regulations. Drone surveillance and ground teams have intensified operations against crop residue burning. Real-time data sharing, warning systems, and rapid response units have been strengthened, while smog-control machinery and inspection teams remain on high alert. The government has advised citizens—especially sensitive individuals—to avoid unnecessary outdoor activity, wear masks, stay hydrated, and seek medical help if experiencing breathing difficulties. Senior Provincial Minister Maryam Aurangzeb stated that Punjab is implementing the most comprehensive anti-smog plan in the region and that public cooperation is essential for improvement.
