Punjab abolishes stamp duty on property transfers in corporate mergers

Punjab: The Punjab government has abolished stamp duty on property transfers resulting from corporate mergers following a decision by the Lahore High Court Rawalpindi Bench. According to the notification issued by the provincial government, companies undergoing mergers approved by the court and the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) will now be exempt from paying stamp duty on property transfers. Officials say the move aims to facilitate corporate restructuring, encourage investment and promote business activity in the province. Experts believe the decision could reduce transaction costs for companies and support a more business-friendly environment in Punjab.
