Polluted Air From India Intensifies Smog Across Punjab

Polluted winds blowing from India’s border areas — including Amritsar, Jalandhar, and Ludhiana — have worsened smog conditions across several cities in Punjab. Lahore and surrounding regions are witnessing a sharp rise in air pollution. Experts report that extremely low wind speed, only 2 miles per hour, is causing polluted air to stay close to the ground during nighttime and early morning. Falling temperatures and the presence of an inversion layer are further intensifying smog levels. The worst-affected cities include Lahore, Kasur, Sheikhupura, Gujranwala, and Faisalabad. The Environmental Department has issued a health advisory urging citizens to avoid unnecessary morning travel. Children, the elderly, and asthma patients have been advised to take extra precautions to prevent health complications.
