PMD Issues Cold Wave, Rain and Fog Alert Across Pakistan

Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued an official weather advisory dated 27 December 2025 (2:00 PM PST), warning of cold wave conditions, rain, snowfall, and dense fog across different parts of Pakistan from 29 December 2025 to 2 January 2026.

According to the advisory, cold and dry weather will prevail in most parts of the country. However, a westerly weather system is expected to enter Pakistan, bringing rain and snowfall to upper regions.

Regional Forecast Details:

Punjab (Plains): Dense fog is likely during night and early morning hours from 29 to 31 December, especially in central and upper Punjab, affecting visibility and road traffic.

Islamabad & Upper Punjab: Cold conditions with intermittent rain expected between 30 December and 2 January.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa: Rain with snowfall over hills is expected from 30 December to 1 January, particularly in upper districts.

Gilgit-Baltistan & Kashmir: Moderate to heavy snowfall expected during the same period, which may disrupt transport and daily life.

Balochistan: Cold weather with rain in northern parts and snowfall over hilly areas from 30 December to 1 January.

Sindh: Mostly cold and dry weather, with fog likely in upper Sindh during night and morning hours.

Potential Impacts Highlighted by PMD:

Dense fog may cause traffic disruptions on highways and motorways.

Snowfall may lead to road blockages in hilly regions.

Very cold temperatures could impact agriculture, livestock, and water supply systems, especially in northern areas.

Risk of frost in plains during early morning hours.

Tourists are advised to avoid unnecessary travel to northern areas.

Farmers are advised to take protective measures for crops and livestock.
