Only 7% of Balochistan’s Land Left Cultivable

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has reported a severe water shortage in Balochistan, revealing that only 7% of the province’s land remains cultivable. To address the crisis, a digital water and weather monitoring system has been introduced, providing accurate data through automatic climate stations that track rainfall, temperature, and wind speed. This system helps farmers plan irrigation schedules more efficiently, reducing water wastage and improving agricultural output. ADB noted that the digital network allows early forecasts of floods and droughts, minimizing potential losses. The government now receives reliable information for fair water distribution and improved coordination among departments. With new dams, canal projects, and solar drip irrigation systems, water availability and agricultural stability in the province are improving.
