Court Rules Karachi Milk Unsafe for Public Use

The Sindh High Court (SHC) was informed that milk being sold across Karachi is unsafe for public consumption after a detailed report submitted by the city commissioner showed that all collected samples failed safety tests. According to PSQCA laboratory results, 22 samples contained formalin while eight showed phosphate contamination, indicating widespread adulteration and unhygienic handling throughout the supply chain. The report, presented before Justice Adnan Iqbal Chaudhry’s bench, highlighted that farmers, wholesalers, and retailers are not following basic hygiene standards, posing serious health risks. Authorities also stated there is no justification for increasing milk prices, which have been fixed at Rs220 per litre under a recent notification. With no party contesting the findings, the SHC officially recorded the report and disposed of the 2023 petition.
