The Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) is the prime government agency responsible for producing official statistics in Pakistan. It was formed by merging the Federal Bureau of Statistics, Population Census Organization, Agriculture Census Organization, and the technical wing of the Statistics Division. PBS collects, compiles, analyses, and disseminates socio-economic, demographic, and agricultural data to support planning, policymaking, and research. It publishes monthly, quarterly and annual reports, including national accounts, poverty and social indicators, price indices, and census data. PBS also provides technical advice and coordination of statistical projects across federal and provincial governments. In recent years, it has shifted toward digitization in data collection (notably the 7th Population & Housing Census, conducted digitally). It supports research and capacity building and collaborates with international organizations and donor agencies.
