Sacred Heart Church Conservation

Walled City of Lahore

Sacred Heart Church Project is a heritage conservation initiative by the Walled City of Lahore Authority focused on preserving the historic Sacred Heart Cathedral on Lawrence Road, Lahore. Also known as the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart, it is one of Lahore’s oldest and most significant churches and serves as the cathedral of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Lahore. The cathedral was constructed in the early 20th century during the British colonial period, with its foundation stone laid in 1905.

The conservation work was part of WCLA’s wider effort to restore important religious and cultural heritage sites across Punjab. The project focused on preserving the cathedral’s historic architecture, cultural character and religious importance while supporting the long-term protection of Lahore’s colonial-era built heritage. Reports show that Sacred Heart Cathedral Church, Lawrence Road, was included among WCLA conservation projects completed in 2022.

WCLA completed the Sacred Heart Church Project with a focus on heritage preservation, interfaith cultural respect and the protection of Lahore’s historic religious architecture. Due to its architectural value, spiritual importance and strong connection with the Roman Catholic community, the cathedral remains one of Lahore’s most important heritage landmarks.
