Mohmand Dam Hydropower Project

Water and Power Development Authority

The Mohmand Dam Hydropower Project is a major water storage and renewable energy initiative designed to support electricity generation, irrigation development and flood mitigation. Construction work is progressing at a fast pace across all major components of the project including the main dam, spillway, powerhouse and irrigation system. The project is being developed to strengthen water security and provide clean and affordable energy for the country.

Once the main dam is completed, electricity generation is expected to commence in December 2027. The dam will store approximately 1.29 MAF of water and will have an installed power generation capacity of 800 megawatts. The project is designed to produce clean and green electricity while also supporting agricultural irrigation and reducing flood risks in downstream areas.

The Mohmand Dam Hydropower Project represents a key step toward sustainable resource management and long term energy planning. With steady progress on all work fronts, the project is moving toward timely completion and is expected to deliver multiple economic and environmental benefits.
